Primary forum for the nuclear industry

back to contents

ATOMEXPO International Forum is a major exhibition venue for meetings and negotiations between global leaders of the nuclear industry. The 8th International Forum ATOMEXPO 2016 will take place from 30 May till 1 June 2016 in the Gostiny Dvor Exhibition Center (Moscow). The Forum is intended to promote nuclear cooperation between Russia, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, and discuss Russia’s proposals for the development of national energy programs.

ATOMEXPO 2016 will feature an international trade fair and a congress for representatives of international, government and public organizations, Russian and foreign businesses, and leading nuclear industry experts.

Particularly, the Forum’s business agenda includes a round table discussion of key nuclear construction issues. Round table participants will consider financial and legal aspects of the current construction projects in India (Kudankulam Units 3 and 4) and Finland (Hanhikivi-1), and discuss the role of national governments in developing nuclear power projects. The plans are that Nikolai Solomon, Rosatom’s First Deputy CEO for Corporate Functions and Chief Financial Officer, will make a report on risk allocation in nuclear station construction projects.

Participants of the Forum will have a chance to visit an exhibition stand of the World Nuclear Association whose CEO Agneta Rising is expected to moderate a panel discussion entitled The Future of Nuclear Energy. New Roles. “I am certain that ATOMEXPO will provide an excellent opportunity to identify and focus on solution-oriented responses and seek to unite the whole nuclear community – from research, government, regulation, design and operation to decommissioning and waste management – to play their respective roles towards a common goal to ensure that nuclear can contribute to a reliable, affordable and clean electricity generation mix,” said Rising.

Last year’s ATOMEXPO International Forum attracted an unprecedentedly large audience as 47 countries — from the USA and Argentina to Indonesia and Japan – sent their representatives to Moscow. The number of participants had grown by more than 50% as compared to the previous year. The last year’s forum was devoted to nuclear energy as a foundation of social and economic development. In a discussion that took place at ATOMEXPO 2015, the former US Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman mentioned power outages occurred in the United States in 2014 when the country was struck by severe weather, “Oil was freezing in the generators, and gas prices rocketed by 300%. Nuclear energy saved us. Utilization of nuclear generation capacity reached 90% at that moment. It is impossible with other types of power plants.”
