back to contentsENC is Europe’s largest conference on nuclear power. The event is held once in two years in different countries of Europe. Usually, the ENC program is built up so to address different issues, not only science and technology but also political and social aspects of nuclear power development in Europe and in the world. The discussions are held in frames of sessions on new nuclear build, fuel cycle, NPP operation, professional training and knowledge management, as well as the public acceptance and social role of nuclear power.
This year the exhibition and conference’s participants were representatives of the largest companies, research institutions and regulatory authorities from Europe. More than 200 papers on various topics were presented. At the conference plenary session ROSATOM was represented by Nikolay Drozdov, Director of the International Business Department. He described ROSATOM’s approaches to financing overseas nuclear plant construction projects. Drozdov stated that ROSATOM was closely tracing what nuclear build financing patterns were implemented in Europe. He said the Russian public corporation was very interested in the “contract for difference” pattern, which was proposed in the United Kingdom and actively discussed by the European Union. “The advantage of this pattern in particular is that it protects investors against potential changes in the political course in a country and attitudes of the society towards nuclear power development. In case the pilot project implemented to this pattern is successful in the U.K., it may form a new trend in the nuclear power development in the Central Europe countries,” Drozdov noted.
