back to contentsWhile the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs after meeting his Argentinian colleague said that joint atomic projects with the country are possible. The technical seminar in Rio was organized within the framework of bilateral economic cooperation between Russia and Brazil.
Kirill Komarov, Rosatom Deputy General Director, and Corporation affiliates’ representatives showed Brazilian colleagues various products and projects for possible realization in NPP design and construction sphere, production of NF, uranium mining, NPP decommissioning, RW and SNF handling, non-atomic technologies and educational initiatives. The event was attended by the President of Electronuclear, Othon Luiz Pinheiro, and President of the Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (Abdan) Antonio Muller.
Mutual Interest
Kirill Komarov reaffirmed the company’s interest in bringing the Russian technology to Brazil. “We are flexible partners and we are ready to evaluate any model of cooperation with Brazil. We offer a unique and integrated model and we are able to help with the latest technology, already used in Russia and worldwide. If Brazil decides to support private investors, we are available. However this is totally the decision of the Brazilian government”, Komarov said. The President of Electronuclear Othon Luiz Pinheiro stressed that the company is planning to build four to eight nuclear power plants by 2030. “Brazil needs good options and Rosatom is one of the qualified suppliers that are under evaluation”- he said.
3D Prospects
At the seminar the Chief Engineer of the “AES-2006” project by SPbAEP Sergey Svetlov told Brazilian representatives about the evolution of Russian NPPs. He gave some technical specifications of the “3+” generation of safety “AES-2006” project, currently being built at the LNPP-2 and Baltic NPP sites in Russia and on the first NPP in Belarus. The project also takes part in the tender for further construction of the “Temelin” NPP in the Czech Republic. There was a presentation of an active 3D model of “AES-2006”, reproducing real layout solutions and description of equipment used in the project.
The questions of Brazilians mainly touched upon features of Russian pile assembly, characteristics and options of equipment supply in case the project is implied in Brazil. Among non-energy technologies Rosatom’s nuclear medicine projects were presented, the experience and design technologies possessed by VNIPIET, another Saint-Petersburg company. Today SPbAEP and VNIPIET unite their competences for establishing a global project company. The parties confirmed their mutual interest in developing the bilateral cooperation in the sphere of power engineering and in peaceful atom. “The parties gave special emphasis to the possible participation of Rosatom in new NPPs construction in Argentina”, – says the report. Russian companies also showed interest in construction of two hydroelectric power stations in the province of Santa Cruz. The estimated investments into project are about $4,5 billion.
