The brake on construction

back to contents

The date shift in Novovoronezh is due to equipment supply problems. At the meeting on construction of Unit 1 of the plant, head of the united company and principal contractor NIAEP-ASE Valery Limarenko said that “it is necessary to optimize procedures affecting the power unit construction progress, i.e. timely awarding contracts, production of working documentation, installation of equipment and, certainly, interaction with vendors. Because equipment supplies are the main brake on the nuclear power plant construction today.”

Essentially, the case is the isolation and control valves, which are used everywhere: in the reactor building, turbine building and auxiliary reactor building. Key vendors of this equipment are Russian plants. Novovoronezh NPP Phase II is built to replace Units 3 and 4 of Novovoronezh NPP, which should be put out of operation in 2016 and 2017.
