Experience to Supply

back to contents
  • The main goal of the Forum is to create a favorable competitive environment for the nuclear industry suppliers who are ready to offer state-of-the-art and high quality products and services.
  • This year the forum has reconfirmed its status of the main communicative ground of the industry. More than 450 representatives of 216 companies participated in the business part. The whole event was organized by the State Corporation Rosatom. The plenary session was opened with the speech of Rosatom Director General Sergey Kiriyenko who pointed out that the “Fukushima syndrome” was actually overcome. “Those who were planning to develop their nuclear industry are now moving in this direction.
  • Those are countries that play significant part in the world economy: China, India, Great Britain, USA, Turkey, South Korea, UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc” – said Kiriyenko. Meanwhile, during 2012 the domestic nuclear industry has increased its stock of orders by $10 billion – up to $69.3 billion. New NPPs are being built, not regarding the Fukushima catastrophe. According to Rosatom estimations, in the coming years about 400 new units are to be constructed. The State Corporation is looking forward to participating in the fifth part of the scope.

Gonna have to fight

  • Rosatom is pretty sure that in the following 5-7 years the companies of China and Korea will become its main rivals, trying to enter foreign market. By the way the Korean company KEPCO has already achieved this goal, having signed a contract for NPP construction in UAE. The main advantage of this kind of players is terms and prices. Thus, Korean NPP builders complete NPP constructions in their country at the designed time sharply, while Chinese can help their clients to save their money, for instance, localizing NPP equipment production.
  • “This immediately reduces the price by 20-30%” – emphasizes Kiriyenko. New competitive business environment establishes high demands to supply organization within the corporation itself. “The quality, the prime cost and terms of delivery are the matters of crucial importance for us. The only means to achieve progress here is good rivalry. That’s why we should keep our doors open. Any supplier, able to provide Rosatom with good quality products, should have such an opportunity” – says the head of Rosatom. The work in this field is already going on and bringing some results. At the beginning of the year Rosatom had about 12 000 suppliers, while now there are 5 000 more. “What we are trying to do is to provide a system as friendly to a good quality supplier, as possible” – says Kiriyenko. He believes that this is the kind of work allowing the State Corporation to become a global leader in the technology. The total volume of Rosatom procurement in 2013 is seen to be about RUB 542.9 billion. In 2012 the sum would be RUB 439 billion.

Experience exchange

  • What made the IV International Forum different is the enthusiastic participation of foreign specialists. For the first time in the history of “Atomex” there was an experience exchange section meeting “Best practices in organization of work with large energy suppliers”, where the representatives of such companies as EDF, CNNC, АREVA, Toshiba shared their experience. The biggest difference today between foreign and RF processes is the preliminary attestation of the equipment and producers. In order to strengthen control over the quality of the pilot project of Rosenergoatom Concern, Russian nuclear operator, the system of equipment suppliers attestation will also be introduced.
  • At the forum they also discussed the possibility of suppliers’ participation in the VVER-TOI project realization (see the details of the project in the release). The affiliated meeting attracted many specialists, which shows public interest to the topic. The “Atomex” business program implied many round-table sessions on various topics. The most interesting appeared to be “Development and localization prospects of medical equipment component parts in Russia”, where they discussed the possibility of including Russia into global technological chain of Philips. Russia is seen as supplier for the co-production of “Philips-Rosatom” medical equipment. “Russia today banks for modernization in many fields, including health care” – said the Senior Director of the “Healthcare” Nuclear Medicine vector in Philips, Kirill Shalyaev. “Russian market is extremely important for Philips. We are planning to establish the production of molecular visualization equipment. There will be not only assembly but also testing, maintenance, research and component and material localization. In fact this opens the way to the world market for Russian suppliers” –said Shalyaev.
  • “The nuclear medicine development program, accepted on November 15, 2012, is fixed on the Russian Federation development state program. This field is very important” – points out Dmitry Kalashnikov, The Deputy Director of Chemical Engineering Complex department of Minpromtorg. The world nuclear medicine market is constantly expanding. By 2030 its volume is expected to reach $22 billion. For its further development it is necessary to build new modern centers for PET (position emission tomography) and remodel the existing ones.
