Rosatom Presented Technologies in Japan

back to contents

At the forum held in Iwaki (Japan), Russia was represented by RosEnergoAtom, TENEX, V. Khlopin Radium Institute, RosRAO, Pilot Decommissioning Center for Uranium-Graphite Reactors, NIKIMT Atomstroy, and experts from the Kurchatov Institute. The event was held with support of TENEX Japan Co. (It was established in 2004 in Tokyo).

Conference participants were demonstrated provisional results achieved by the companies from Japan and other countries in the cleanup operation at Fukushima-1. Russian nuclear experts also presented their expertise and solutions that could be useful for the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi. According to TENEX representatives, the conference clearly shows that Japan is open for cooperation with the international community in this field.

Elena Artyomova, Deputy CEO for Legal and Corporate Affairs, International Decommissioning Sales Manager, TENEX:

“The 2nd International Forum on the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was a big event that brought together industry representatives from many countries, including key vendors of decommissioning solutions. The forum provided a deep insight into the current situation on the site and TEPCO’s plans for further operations and gave us an opportunity to see what other players offer for Fukushima’s nuclear decommissioning. The international seminar on Japan’s nuclear decommissioning plans was the first event of its kind. Japan has 11 power units that are being decommissioned or prepared for decommissioning. Japanese companies and public authorities give much focus to learning from the experience of other countries and best global practices in this area. Rosatom’s representatives made a report on the projects delivered in Russia under the Nuclear and Radiation Safety 2015 Federal Target Program, and took part in the panel discussion to present RosEnergoAtom’s approach to nuclear decommissioning”.

The Russian delegation took part in the international seminar dedicated to Japan’s nuclear decommissioning plans and made a report on nuclear decommissioning projects delivered in Russia. To discuss the status of joint projects, Russian nuclear companies held a number of meetings with their key Japanese partners. The forum was followed by a visit to Fukushima-1. Rosatom’s experts, who had already been to the site, noted much progress in the on-site cleanup operations, along with a high degree of organization and excellent safety culture.
