ITER by joint efforts
back to contentsRecently the fourth working meeting of the RF and Indian specialists, designing experimental blanket module for International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) tests, was conducted in Ahmadabad (Rebublic of India) within the frameworks of “Memorandum of understanding between the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, concerning broader scientific and technical cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy”.
During the working meeting they looked through the issues of: experimental module construction with ceramic breeder and lithium-lead eutectic and arranging the zone of tritium production; the results of design calculation substantiation of experimental module working capacity; the results of research engineering for improvement of properties of materials used in the experimental module; the results of research engineering for liquid metal flux analysis in a rectangular channel inside magnetic field under effect of operating temperature and for studying “liquid metal – ferrite-martensite steel” interfacial barrier corrosion. The participants discussed further directions of R&D activities for substantiating the work capacity of the experimental module and construction materials.
Russian specialists also took part in several meetings, where they discussed design features of the experimental module and the ways of their optimization in order to fulfil the criteria of static and endurance strength and simplifying the process of production.
The results of the RF and Indian specialists’ working meeting are drawn in a protocol issued after its end, where it is specified that in December 2014 they plan to sign an agreement between ITER International Organization and the Republic of India concerning development, production and supplying of experimental module with ceramic breeder and lithium-lead eutectic, where Indian party is planning to involve the RF as a partner.
