Construction sites. The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for the second power unit has been installed in its design position at the El Dabaa construction site in Egypt. “Today’s event is another important step in implementing one of the largest national projects under the New Republic campaign. It brings us closer to fulfilling Egypt’s long-standing dream of having its own civil nuclear power plant,” said Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The 340-tonne RPV was placed into the center of the reactor pit using a heavy-duty crawler crane, with an installation precision of one-tenth of a millimeter. “This is a major milestone for both the power unit and the entire project. We now can proceed to the next key stage, the welding of the primary coolant pipeline,” Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev pointed out. The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will have four VVER-1200 reactor units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each.
Corporate results. Rosatom has presented its performance results for 2025. Revenue reached RUB 3.33 trillion (USD 43.3 billion), up 7.9% from 2024. New products made a substantial contribution, generating RUB 1.51 trillion (USD 19.7 billion) in revenue. Overseas orders across the entire nuclear lifecycle increased to USD 206.2 billion, demonstrating a 2.9% growth. Rosatom’s projects now span 65 countries worldwide. Total electricity generation at its nuclear and wind power plants amounted to 220.7 billion kWh. A major achievement of the year was the commissioning of Russia’s first lithium-ion energy storage gigafactory. The total headcount of the Russian nuclear corporation reached 402,000. Rosatom maintains a high level of safety at its facilities, with no events above level 1 on the INES scale recorded in 2025. The state corporation continues to develop low-carbon energy generation, including nuclear and wind, while remaining the global leader in overseas new builds.
Cooperation. Kaliningrad, Russia, hosted the thirteenth round of consultations between Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on ensuring the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev informed IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi about the growing number of incidents in the region, noting casualties and injuries. He called for increased attention to the public assessment of safety risks to the facility and emphasized the unacceptability of any actions that could compromise it. The parties also discussed the continued presence of IAEA experts at the site and the further expansion of information exchange. The participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the dialogue on pressing issues.
